It just started idling roughly today. It seems to sound normal when I accelerate, but the RPM is variates while idling. It has not died while idling yet.

Do you have a check engine light and when was the last tune-up?

Check the idle air control valve/throttle position sensor/MAF sensor.

The last tuneup was about 2 years ago and I have no lights on the dashboard.

Tune it up first. Basics first, then if not solved, we get down and dirty! You may have a vacuum leak, get a can of spray gumout, spray the vac lines and maniflod area, when the idle changes, youve found the leak! You want the engine running and spray on the outside but do direct the stream onto the hoses, if it is a vacuum leak, the engine idle will change speed, then you have detected a leak, repair the vacuum leak and see how it runs!
