The car shifts through the gears fine, and drives ok, but when first starting up and put in gear (drive or reverse) it is starting to lurch or jerk a few times while it gets moving. Also if stopped in gear (at a stoplight) the engine rpm's will drop every couple seconds. If shifted into neutral, rpm's smooth out. Any ideas?

I would suspect the transmission lockup solenoid, which if malfunctioning will cause stalling when stopping, this type of diagnosis is best done at reputable trans. shop.

It is also possible the IAC (idle air control valve) is malfunctioning, if you turn steering wheel while stopped (trans in neutral) rpm's should increase a little, or when AC is demanded, rpm's should go up.
