Engine Cooling problem
1997 Toyota Camry 6 cyl 145000 miles

Mechanic quoting me $365 to change both valve cover gaskets, which seems pretty high. Is this a repair I could do myself? I've heard that the 'front' gasket is easy, but the 'rear' one is a pain to get to.

Yeah they have the parts as 34.50 and 31.50 and labor at 85 an hour. Looks like its time to find a new mechanic.

If u do replace the valve cover gaskets replace the water bypass hose, pcv valve and spark plugs and wires if they have never been changed, but if on a budget at least change the hose.
