While I was driving I made a left turn and heard a popping sound after that my car wouldnt go forward or back, goes in gear, good pressure in clutch but makes a grinding noise when I lift the clutch, put camry up in the air found that when started the axle turns on the passenger side as it should and the driverside sits still as it should, problem is the passenger side axle is turning from the tranny with the rest of the axle but the wheel wont turn making a grinding noise

Hi there,

You may have broken a drive shaft or the CV has failed, if yo can hold the shaft in your hand and still turn the wheel this will be the case, try this and post back your findings, also is the rubber boot over the CV intact?

Cv boot is distorted, twisted and bunched but rubber isnt broken the drive shaft turns but not the pass. Side wheel there's a grinding noise where the cv meets the backside of the rotors. I think the shaft is not connecteced to the wheel. When I start the car the shaft turns from the tranny but wont spin the wheel

thank you 4 any thoughts

Hi there,

The drive shaft has failed, this is not a huge job, but the drive shaft nut has to be removed which is often extremely tight and need a 3/4 drive pneumatic air gun to undo, also you will loose the trans oil so you have to be able to re fill that as well. Let me know if you wish too do this job or get a mechanic to do it for you.
