My 1997 toyota 4 runner 170,000 miles has an electrical problem. I thought it was the alternator because the battery went dead and it would run on the alternator alone so I replaced alternator to find it still died after battery lost charge so I'm thinking battery and had it checked out because it was a month old. I'm now lost and thinking a short between battery and alternator but don't know can anyone relate to this problem?

There may be a parasitic draw on the system draing down the battery when it is setting, It may be a light that is left on or a problem in one of the circuits. Too much pull from the battery will results in a no crank.

Need to verify the battery is good after a full charge and the alternater is good. OR start checking for a excesive draw.
