I have been having intermittent problems with starting the car for the last 3 or 4 months. It seemed that jiggling that gear shift has seemed to solve the problem until this weekend. We've also cleaned the battery cables and had the battery and the alternator checked. They both did not register as having a problem. The car would not start on Friday night but we messed with the gear shift and kept trying and finally got it started. I have not been able to start it again though. I did notice the other day when I tried to start it that the gear shift seems to keep getting stuck and won't move from park. That happened on Friday also but we kept messing with it and we got it to move.

When the car wont start, put the vehicle in neutral. Will it start then?

It took a while to get it out of park but when I finally did (I had to turn the ignition on) and put the car in neutral, it still did not start. Just a click.
