I have a '99 4runner 2.7L. Car wont start and is backfiring and spitting fire thru the intake. Car has new crank and cam sensors. Timing marks are OK, injector pulse and spark are present, 180 psi compression all across, new spark plugs and both coils were installed, tab is not broken on intake cam. What am I missing?

Maybe you put plug wires on wrong? What happened in the first place to cause you to replace parts?

Coils show cyl# on them. Car was taken to a firestone place before where crank sensor got broken.

Are the coils backwards? Firestone broke the car?

Can't go wrong with coils, cylinder #s are stampped on them. Car was taken to firestone for repairs but they could not fix it. When I got the car, I hooked a scanner and gave me FC for crank and cam sensors. That is when I found the alternator hanging and a broken crank sensor.
On the other hand, I was doing some research and I found that if the car has all the preconditions to start the catalitic converted could be clogged not allowing the combustion gases to escape

I meant the connector plugs to the coils being backwards. I hate getting cars that someone else has messed with and failed. Just adds to the problem most times. Makes it harder to diagnos.
