I have a Toyota Hilux surf, its been a while since I heard noise in my Transmission, so I change my Transmission fluid not long I heard the noise again, then few weeks later on my way to work, it won't engage into drive. After few minutes then I start it again and it go for only 100 meters then it won't engage into drive again.
Can someone tell me what is wrong with my AUTO TRANS please? Thank you.

Hi coconutmechanic,

When you replaced the fluid, was it very dark and smelt burnt? Is the fluid level now ok?

What type of noise was heard?

Does reverse gear works?

From my guess, the situation don't look good. Most probably the front clutch is faulty.

Hi, Thanks replying. The color of the fluid is like milky, the fluid level is ok and the noise is like the noise of the power steering when it has no fluid. When I put in reverse, it only go for maybe 5 meters.
Again thanks, and looking forward to hear from you.

Hi coconutmechanic,

Milky means the fluid is contaminated with water.

Is the radiator coolant level ok, you might have a leak into fluid cooler which is embedded in the radiator lower tank.

If not you would need to have the trans flushed and ATF replaced. Contaminated ATF would cause havoc to the trans.
