I believe the starter has gone out, need "location" of starter on engine and level of difficulity to replace for a " Home Repair" by a woman with "RUSTY" memory of vehicle repair and "THEN" they had Carburators!

If you follow the positive battery cable towards the engine it will take straight to it-

NOTE: Some Toyota models have an access plate in the fender well to facilitate starter service. Check for such an access point before beginning starter service.

NOTICE: Before changing the starter, check the following items again.

Connector connection
Accessory installation (for example: Theft deterrent system)
STARTER REMOVAL

DISCONNECT WIRES FROM STARTER
Remove the nut and disconnect the battery cable from the magnetic switch on the starter motor.
Disconnect the other wire from terminal 50.

Engine Mechanical problem
1994 Toyota 4Runner 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic 295K miles

I need to replace my starter (original), but it is located directly behind the the passenger side engine mount and directly below the exhaust manifold. I see no wiggle room for removal. Am I wrong in thinking I may have to remove the mount plate and raise or lower the engine in replacing this starter? I hope so. Someone let me know.

Remove right front tire, remove the cover plate remove starter and pull out through fender-well. Some times the contacts on the back are all you need, so try that first.
