approx. 8k miles on new engine

I haven't driven the car in a while (been doing some body mods, etc.) And now when I start the car about 15 seconds after running, the temp gauge goes right to overheat. Full hot. I've replaced the sending sensor, thermostat and I'm not seeing any leaks from the pump. Also the top hose is hot. I bought a new instrument cluster and it still does the same thing.

the battery in the car is bad (i have to jump it) but I'm pretty sure all the grounds are good. Could I have blown up my ECU welding? Can I just get an after market gauge and use it or does the computer adjust things in the car per that temp from the sending unit?

thanks for your help. I hate this car.

Sounds like a wiring problem, dont think it is possible to overheat one in 15 seconds. If the sender for the temp gauge is 1 wire, then it can be replaced by a manual gauge. The 2 wire is the coolant sensor for the computer and must stay in
