2002 Jeep Liberty 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic

i need to know when the cams are lined up at 12 oclock is that straight up or slanted with the heads 12 oclock and also why I wouldnt have any compression on the number 1 cylinder. Before disassembling we had compression just puzzled why we dont now.

Engine is interference was cams or crank turned with chain off?
