I have a ticking noise in my truck when I start it up and it is idling.I also see a little smoke come from somewhere underneath the hood.

Let's start with checking the oil level and making sure the oil is at the proper level. Then has there been any recent service that the smoke could just be residual oil burning off?

Next, can you get a recording of the noise so that we can try to identify it? Normally ticking is either injector clicking or possibly lifters tapping but we could have other issues so hearing the noise will help. Also, does the noise change when you raise and lower the RPM's?

Let's start with this and go from there. Thanks

Okay. If you only here the noise at idle then that may be the injectors clicking. Can you get a recording of it?

As for the smoke, if you can get that in the video that would be great.
