I got my van back from a mechanic today. The oil cooler was replaced because it was cracked. The only thing I’m worried about now is the temperature reading. The same mechanic said to give it some time basically to reset itself, the temperature thermostat is reading a little hotter than I would like (between half and 3/4 on the gauge sometimes). I’m just wondering how long the resetting itself will take. Thank you for any help.

Hi,

There is no reset. It sounds like there could still be air in the cooling system. I guess it could work itself out, but it may not. This may sound crazy, but does the heater produce heat?

On this vehicle, they actually recommend placing the cooling system under a strong vacuum and then allowing the system to draw the coolant in when the vacuum is released. I attached the directions below if you want to see them.

Let me know.

Joe

I will check the heat the next time I use it but I’m curious why you asked about the heat? Is there any other option besides the one you mentioned? I don’t know what I’m doing even with what you suggested so I don’t want to risk hurting the van more. Thanks for any help.

Also, I just checked the heater and it’s running good like normal. I ran my scanner also and it says 24% on replacing thermostat.

Hi,

I asked about the heater because that is the first thing affected when there is air in the system. If there was no heat, then air would have been my first suspect.

What do you mean 24% on replacing the thermostat? Also, was the vehicle overheating prior to the service?

Let me know.

Joe
