The pickup I’m working on was sitting for some time, when getting it ready for the road the usual steps were taking to get it ready, radiator flush, plugs and wires, dump the old fuel out and put in new etc. When I put it in reverse it backs perfectly with acceleration but when in drive it hesitates and bogs down. I am clueless, maybe someone else has had the same problem. I have no idea of the history of the truck and what has been done to it prior. Any suggestions?

Hi,

Did you try to retrieve diagnostic codes? Also, is it immediately when you put it in drive? In other words, it runs perfectly in reverse, but in drive, it starts having issues.

If you haven't, check that first. Here is a link that explains how to retrieve them on this vehicle. It should still be an OBD1 system.

Let me know.

I did run test on it, and it showed oxygen sensors (no check engine light on). It does it from the start after putting it in gear, idles fine shift to drive is when it sputters and has no power (drive only) it acts like in drive that it’s starving for fuel.

Ben,

Could it be coming from the transmission? For example, could it be slipping, causing it to feel this way?

Is it possible for you to record what it does so I can see and hear it?

Let me know.

Take care,

Joe
