Wheel won't turn with steering wheel

Hi there! Got a 2004 Subaru Forester XT, about 105K mileage, not sure of engine size but is the turbo model.

A few weeks ago started hearing a squeeky spring sound in the passenger front wheel area when going over bumps, etc. And assumed I had a shock or a strut going out and planned to take it in to have it repaired in a week or so. But just as I parked at home today the driver's side front wheel suddenly turned all the way to one side and now doesn't turn at all with the steering wheel (the passenger side wheel turns just fine). The wheel seems to rotate just fine.

What has happened (and I assume it's not safe to drive to my mechanic now and need a tow.)

Thanks!

Hi there,

It sounds like the tie rod end has broken, thats the conection between the steering rack and the stub axle assembly. You will need a tow to get it repaired and also have all the steering and front suspension checked for any other worn parts, If this failed while you were driving at any speed well you be the judge of that.
