The car is a 1983 Subaru GL wagon. Whenever I put the headlights on bright, it last for a little while and then all the lights go out. I think it would be a circuit breaker, but I can't locate it. Could you help. Car has 382,000 miles on it.

Headlight fuses on subaru are generally under the hood on the drivers side.

Behind the dash on the drivers side there is a row of relays (4 or 5), they look like cylindrical metal cans with a plug on the bottom, two of these are for headlights you can swap a known good one with each (1 at a time) to locate faulty relay(s). They snap right in easily.
This fixed my headlight's which had a very simaliar problem.
