1995 Subaru Legacy All wheel drive

What could cause all wheel drive on 1995 Subaru Legacy not to work?

My 1993 legacy did the same thing, but I didn't realize the AWD was gone until it snowed. Mine needed a new solenoid for the transmission. It is a dealership part ($105) and about 6-8 hours labor, since the transmission has to be pulled. But that fixed mine. Good luck!
