Fuel pump relay?

Hey Nick,

I did some digging around and found this wiring diagram for you that tells its behind the left side of the dash, check the wiring colors to make sure you get the right one. Check out the diagrams (Below). Please let us know what happens.

we were recieving no fuel pressure.
Checked the fuel pump relay, no juice coming out.
replaced relay, car started after pressurizing fuel lines.
however, fuel pump relay blew again??
where shoul i focus my attention?
main relay?Fuel pump? causing relay to blow??

Hi jamespagosa,

Fuel pump relays do not go bad even if the pump is shorting as the fuse would blow. If it is confirmed the relay is bad, then most likely the quality of the relay is suspect.

Does anyone have a diagram of where the fuel filter relay is located as it is not listed and I don't have the owners maual? I have a 1995 AWD subaru legacy LS with a 2.2 liter 4 cyl.

There seems to be an electrical problem somewhere in connection with fuel pump/ relay/ ecu.
Firstly, there is a ticking sound emanating from the relay like going on and off from time to time rendering the car to lose power and jerk uncontrollably. Secondly, when the car is at idle it revs itself each time the relay goes on and off. so any ideas why the relay pump is behaving this way?

Have you checked the relay itself?

Yes, the relay seems ok. I took it out and had good look at it. Hooked it to the battery and it worked (clicked). And there is nothing unusual about the connector. I also checked the pump electrical connections - nothings seems loose or burnt.

Okay, since it runs, then you hear a click and lose power, then it runs again, either there is a wiring issue (could be broken internally) or the relay is getting hot and shutting down. Just for a test, select another relay in the box with the same part number and switch them to see if it makes any change.

I am so close to the fuel pump relay I can smell it but cant see it~!!! I'm under the dash at the drivers side and I cant locate this relay... I have a 92 Subaru legacy. I was wondering if three's something else that I have to take off to see it. I have the bottom panel off but when I look at other diagrams on the net, it shows me that they have all but all the top dash off. Is there a diagram that you can send to my email so that I can get a better idea what to do to replace this relay.

It is the Green colored socket.

I took the bottom panel off the dash but still cant see it. Is there something else that I have to take off to get to it because I don't see it. THANKS~!!!

You should be able to see the relays after taking off the panel, near the kick panel.

Well... all i see are plugs and nothing that resembles a round relay... In really stomped here... If its there,it must be way up in and i have no idea how to get to it~!!! ( BIG SIGH )

You need to get under the dash and look upwards.

It is so far up in the dash that you want even touch it. There's a access panel in the lower part of the dash that i can see it but there is no way you can touch it. The only way i see how to even get to it is to loosen and pull the dash up so it can be accesed from the top end. Please correct Mr if in wrong. Its in a 92 subaru legacy special edition. THANKS

If you need to pull the dash to reach it, then it should be so but so far I have never come across any vehicle that requires pulling the dash to access the relays. Removing the lower dash panle might help in gaining access.

I changed everything the fuel filter the pump and the strainer but my car still wont turn over I was told that it might be the relay but I can't find the darn thing I need help bad can't afford to hire anybody to help it turns but wont turn over the pump no make a gurge sound near the tank but i don't know what to do anymore I only took auto for 1 semseter thanks to all that read and help
