I need to remove steering pinion and rack from housing

Before I apply real force I'd like direction from someone that has done this work.

You must remove the bottom cap from the lower part of the rack pinion (#14). This exploded diagrams should help us. Check out the diagrams (below). Let us know what happens and please upload pictures or videos of the problem.

Ken, thanks for the diagram, but I needed to remove the rack and pinion from the housing to replace all seals gaskets etc. I have had several C5's and mixed results purchasing re-manufactured racks so this time I bought a rebuild kit and will restore myself. I am about 90% disassembled at this point and will send off some photos and text description after everything is cleaned which hopefully will be of help to you and others in the future.
