I was changing the starter and the previous owner broke the starter mount, and J. B. Welded it back together so when I went to change the starter the mount broke. Is there any way to fix it without changing the bell housing? Can I have it welded back on? I believe it is aluminum.

It could be welded back on but it's a tricky weld on dirty aluminum so it wouldn't be that easy to do. Replacing the bellhousing might be a faster and easier solution.

Does anyone know why they made them like that? It just seems dumb to me, because now I have to replace the transmission just to fix a starter bracket problem. I sold my F-150 and my Mustang to buy this car. And it's not like that's something you can check out when buying the car because of where it's located.

Made that way for the same reason most other pieces on vehicles are, faster to assemble, cheaper to make and lower cost for the manufacturer.
