I replaced my starter because it snapped the bottom eyelet of the starter housing where the bolt goes through so after I replaced it I went to start the car and it done the same thing again what would be causing it?

INSURE THE STARTER IS SEATED IN IT'S HOLE CORRECTLY AND THE BOLTS ARE TIGHT

CAN YOU TURN THE ENGINE OVER AT LEAST 2 REVOLUTIONS WITH A WRENCH. KEY OFF AND IN YOUR POCKET ! !. THUS VERIFYING IT'S NOT LOCKED UP

I'VE SEEN THIS A FEW TIMES WITH A FEW OLD 70s FORD PICK UPS

EACH TIME IT HAPPENED, WAS WHEN SOMEONE HAD MESSED WITH THE TIMING. SORTA "TIMING IT BY EAR" AND NOT USING A TIMING LIGHT. THE ENGINE WOULD "KICK BACK" WHEN IT FIRED. THE STARTER WOULD DANGLE BY IT'S CABLE!

KEEP US POSTED

Ok the starter bolts are reasonably smaller than the holes in the starter housing. Even though I tighten the bolts properly starting with top bolt to the bottom with the proper torque applied can the difference in size cause the bottom bolt hole to snap when the starter engages? Also I have never had to shim a ford starter. Is that a possibility?

ARE THESE THE ORIGINAL BOLTS?

IF NOT, MAYBE THEY "USED TO HAVE" A LARGER SHOULDER?

DO YOU HAVE THE ABILITY TO CHECK SOME DIFFERENT AUTO PARTS STORES (DIFFERENT BRAND STARTERS) TO SEE IF THE HOUSING HOLES ARE SMALLER?

. STUPID QUESTION BELOW

. THE STARTER'S NOSE IS "SEATED" IN IT'S HOLE COMPLETELY, AT THE SAME TIME THE "EARS" ARE FLAT DOWNYOU'RE NOT FORCING THEM TO BE FLAT DOWN?

SOMETIMES YOU DO GET THE WRONG PARTS, FROM THE PARTS FELLER TEXTING HIS GAL AS HE 'ROUNDS THE CORNER TO GRAB YOUR STARTER OFF OF THE SHELF! CHECK THE OTHER STORES

TOP HALF OF LAST RESPONSE. DISAPPEARED?

BASICALLY THIS WAS IT.

ARE THE THE ORIGINAL BOLTS?

IF NOT, MAYBE THE ORIGINALS HAD BIGGER SHOULDERS?

STUPID QUESTION BELOW.

THE NOSE OF THE STARTER IS "SEATED" IN IT'S HOLE?

THE EARS ARE FLAT DOWN. NO GAPS WHEN YOU TIGHTEN THE BOLTS

(WHAT POSTED LAST TIME)

YOU'RE NOT FORCING THEM TO BE FLAT DOWN, AS YOU TIGHTEN THE BOLTS?

SOMETIMES YOU DO GET THE WRONG PARTS, FROM THE PARTS FELLER TEXTING HIS GAL AS HE 'ROUNDS THE CORNER TO GRAB YOUR STARTER OFF OF THE SHELF! CHECK THE OTHER STORES

SOME PICS MIGHT HELP!

YOU MENTIONED STEALERSHIP, ARE YOU ABLE TO PERFORM EZ TESTS?

ARE YOU INSTALLING THE STARTER?

THIS IS WHAT I FOUND TO BE "STOCK" ENGINES FOR A '86 MUSTANG

2.3L 4 CYL

2.3L TURBO

3.8L V-6

5. OL V-8

I RECKON I SHOULDA THREW THIS IN BEFORE. HAVE YOU MESSED WITH THE SPARK PLUG WIRES. MAYBE AN EVIL BUDDY DID WHEN YOU WEREN'T PAYING ATTENTION?

IT COULD BE POSSIBLE THAT THE THEY ARE INSTALLED WRONG. WHEN I WAS IN HIGH SCHOOL, IT WAS A GOOD [EVIL] JOKE WE WOULD DO TO EACH OTHER, IT GOT TO THE POINT WHERE WE WOULD RIG A LOCK ONTO OUR HOOD TO PREVENT IT

IF YOU "JUMPED TIME", THIS MIGHT CAUSE IT

IF THE DISTRIBUTOR GOT LOOSE/ OR INTENTIONALLY MOVED, THIS MIGHT CAUSE IT

ELABORATE ON ANYTHING I MENTIONED

BEFORE YOU/ THEY MESS WITH 'EM MORE, MAYBE WITH YOUR ENGINE SIZE (IF IT'S STOCK) I CAN HELP YOU SEE IF THEY ARE IN THE CORRECT SEQUENCE ON THE DISTRIBUTOR CAP AND ON THE SPARK PLUGS
