I get a squeaking noise coming from under the vehicle whenever it starts to move. The more speed being gained the faster the squeaking gets. At driving speeds, it sounds like the cars from the Jetsons. I thought it might be a bearing but when I lift the vehicle up and spin the wheels, I Don't get any sound. I attached a video for the sound. Thanks

Hi,

I definitely heard it. When you lift the vehicle, is there any sound at all? Also, is there anything you can do to cause it to change in pitch or volume? For example, if you apply the brakes or make a sharp turn, does it change?

I just listened to it again. At first, it sounds like a rubber bushing sound but by the time you hit jetsons speed, it sounds metallic. LOL If you bounce the vehicle, do you hear any squeaking?

Let me know. Also, did you check any of the following things:

Ball joint
Brake rotor backing plate for rust/bent and touching rotor
Suspension components such as a stabilizer link

Let me know. Keep in mind, it could still be a wheel bearing and just not make noise when it isn't loaded.

Let me know your thoughts.

Joe

Other than vehicle speed, nothing else changes the pitch. I checked the backing plates as that was my first thought. Suspension components are fairly good. All bushing are starting to show age. I check ball joints no excessive play. I'm going to try to check the front hub bearings with my stethoscope when the weather clears. Thanks

I didn't hear any noise using the stethoscope on the front hubs. The left rear a can hear a slight noise but nothing that sounds of a grounding sound right rear nothing. I did notice that I can spin the rears while the truck is in park, but the drive shaft only moves slightly.

Hi,

The rear wheel turning in park is normal when both wheels are off the ground. No issue there. Are the brakes and brake hardware in good condition?

Let me know.

Rear brakes and all hardware are good. New rotors, calipers, and pads. I still get the squeak. I noticed the other day that it doesn't make the noise in reverse.

Hi,

If you don't hear it in reverse, suspect it has something to do with the parking brake shoes. Have you checked them? You may have a retainer off or a broken retainer spring which is allowing the shoes to turn and rub when going forward. See pic below

Let me know.

Joe

I was finally able to reproduce the noise. I had it in neutral and spun the drive shaft and after several turns the sound started. I sprayed the u joints with some motorcycle chain lube to see if the sound would go away and it did for about a day. Cars is at the shop to get new u joints installed. If that doesn't stop it, I'll update.
Thanks for your help.
