Recently got emissions done passed with flying colors. Car runs really good except it acts like it wants to take off by itself and it stalls (not all the time) at sudden stops or at a complete stop at the stoplight. Everything runs good. Help please!

Good afternoon,

I would start by cleaning the throttle body as carbon build up could cause the high idle and the stalling

Another possibility for stalling is the EGR valve. If it sticks and dos not close all the way, it will make it stall on hard braking. To verify, remove the connector on the EGR valve and drive it and see if it stills stalls.

THROTTLE BODY CLEANING PROCEDURE

1. Remove the air cleaner outlet duct.
2. Remove the air inlet screen, if applicable.
3. Inspect the throttle body bore and the throttle valve plate for deposits. You must open the throttle valve in order to inspect all of the surfaces.

NOTE: Do not subject a throttle body assembly which contains the following components to an immersion cleaner or a strong solvent:
Throttle position (TP) sensor
Idle air control (IAC) valve
Sealed throttle shaft bearings

The cleaners will damage the electric components or sensors.

The cleaners will damage some of these components that contain seals or O-rings.

Solvents can wash away or break down the grease used on non-serviceable throttle shaft bearings.

Never use a wire brush or scraper to clean the throttle body. A wire brush or sharp tools may damage the throttle body components.

Do not use a cleaner that contains methyl ethyl ketone. This extremely strong solvent may damage components and is not necessary for this type of cleaning.

1. Clean the throttle body bore and the throttle valve plate using a clean shop towel with GM Top Engine Cleaner, P/N 1052626 or an equivalent product.
2. If the deposits are excessive, remove and disassemble the throttle body for cleaning. Refer to Throttle Body Assembly Replacement.
After disassembly, clean the throttle body using a parts cleaning brush. DO NOT immerse the throttle body in any cleaning solvent.
3. If you removed and disassembled the throttle body for cleaning, assemble and install the throttle body. Refer to Throttle Body Assembly Replacement.
4. Install the air inlet screen, if applicable.
5. Install the air cleaner outlet duct.

Where is the EGR valve at on my car listed above SLE? Can you send a picture of the part to take off? To see if it still stalls while driving it. How long do I drive it like that? Please if you can as soon as possible I do not like driving my like that it's kind of scary.

Just unlug the connector and take it for a ride.

One step at a time.

Most likely will be coming back to the throttle body.

Okay, thank you. Because it did stall one time and he just drove it up the street to the store and it didn't install then when he came out of the store he and drove it back it stalled at the first traffic light which is not even about l00 feet. The service engine light also came on. He didn't check when he got home to see if the light had gone off he just came up to our apartment. Oh, he did plug it back into before he came to the apartment of course?

No, not yet. We just now started my car and service engine light is still on and it didn't want to start. We are going to AutoZone now to check out the code.
