I have a vibration noise/rattle in the gear shifter when I am on a rough road-like a road paved 20 years ago with a lot of patchwork and dirt roads. Sounds like it's coming from deep in the shifter console. Driving me nuts! Help!

First of all thank you so much for your donation. To be honest with you I haven't really ran across the problem your having. Let me ask you this if you smack the shifter with your hand can you hear the same rattle?Let me know.

No, I can not stop the vibration/noise by holding any part of the console, shifter, knob, etc. Dealer tightened the know - no help. Sounds deep inside console and radiating up. I have a 1989 Tracer w/ 206,500 miles (engine never touched) has a similar sound but when I put pressure on the shift lever (manual) I can stop it. Not the Vue. Dealer says nothing in the console to vibrate - something is. Quiet on a smooth road.

I was asking if you could make the rattle noise while smacking the shifter around?Much safer then driving the car around listening for the noise. Let me know.

I have had no further reponses to my question about the gear shift/console vibration/noise in my 2005 Saturn Vue. I have not been given a suggestion or what to look for but only a question. Is this all I'm going to get?

In my last post I was trying to ask you a question that I asked you in the first post but you miss understood the question I was asking that's why I asked it again. Iam trying to help you here but if I don't ask you question's I could send you on a wild goose chase and make you waste your time taking something apart you didn't have too. Noise's are bad enough to find when I have the car and iam able to test drive it. But a lot worse when I haven't ran across that noise not able to test drive it smack the shifter around to see if I can duplicate the rattle like I asked you too do for me. Iam not mad at you just trying to explain to you why I have to ask question's because iam not there to see and hear, touch what you do. Let's do this just to make sure it's not the exhaust, heat shield or something loose under that area of the car. When everything is cold with the ebrake on car in park wheel's blocked slide under and see if anything is loose and rattling. If nothing is loose then remove the center console I emailed you instruction's on how to remove it. Then see if you can find anything loose smacking the shifter etc. If you can't find anything loose then you will have to drive it with the console out while listening for the rattle and being safe while driving. Let me know what you find.

No, I can not smack the sifter and duplicate the noise. I have had it on the rack with my mechanic twice and have not been able to find anything remotely loose. I have not received an email about taking the console apart. Did you send it to kempfer@wildblue. Net or through the forum. I have not seen an email in my spam folder either. Got lost in cyberspace somewhere I guess.

Hi Louie,

I just got the email direct so I will get into the console and see if I can find anything. It will probably be next week before I can get to it since the rest of this week is tied up and my wife wants to go to WV this weekend. Thanks!
