My service engine light came on last night. I took it in and had it hooked up to a diagnostic code reader. The mechanic tried several times but did not get a code. Is this common? He said he couldn't even reset the system b/c the reader did not find a code. Why would the light come on if there isn't a problem?

That code reader can probably only read engine codes u probably have a transmission code or a body control module code.U will need to go have it scanned by someone that has a tool that can do that. Let me know what u find.

Looks like you were right. I took it to a friend who has a better code reader. It came up with code P0130 - O2 Oxygen Sensor - Bank 1 Sensor 1. My next question. What do I do now and where is the oxygen sensor on an 03 Vue?

Ok then it is o2 senor 1 meaning the o2 sensor thats screwed into the exhaust manifold.U can run thru trouble tree for the code but u would need a code reader that could read engine data. Or u could just go ahead and replace the sensor and reset the code and see what happens.U might have to go sears to get a o2 sensor socket to replace it there only like 10. Let me know how it goes.
