2000 Saturn SL1 unwanted acceleration

I have a 2000 saturn 1.9 ltr s series. It will suddenly accelerate to 4 or more thousand rpms, then stalls or almost stalls. What is going on. It's very dangerous

Is there a check engine light on, if so, have it scanned and bring the codes back to me, but at first thought, it sounds like the throttlel position sensor is faulty, that is located to the right of the throttle plate on the throttle body
