While driving espace it misses a beat occasionally under accelaration and the engine light comes on but not always. Engine light goes out almost straight away and car drives fine. Have read codes on renault clip machine and comes up with down stream oxygen sensor, have replaced this and the one before the cat and it still does it.

The Cat may be clogged up, but check that the engine is running at 100% before changing it. Plugs will cause a miss under acceration. So will low fuel delivery.

HAVE CHECKED CAT AND SEEMS ALL OK WITH GOOD FLOW THROUGH IT WITH AN AIRLINE. HAVE REPLACED PLUGS WITH NGK ONES AND ALSO FITTED 4 NEW PENCIL COILS. ALWAYS COMES UP WITH DOWN STREAM OXYGEN SENSOR CODE. I WONDER IF IT HAS AN ECU PROBLEM, BUT CAR RUNS EXTREMLEY WELL APARTS FROM THIS PROBLEM.

The computers on newer cars very rarelly fail themselves. The only two things I can think of is that the signal from the downstream O2 sensor is off for some reason. You could test the signal at the O2 sensor and then at the computer to make sure they are the same. Or the catalytic element inside the converter is not working as it should. You could have this verified at a shop with an emissions tester.
