I hear a rear wheel hum at high speeds only on the passenger side. I rotated the rear tire to the front and also checked for bearing play. No play and rotating did not help. I read somewhere these are sealed bearings. Any ideas?

Hello, I am Danny.

Yes, the rear hub/bearing is a sealed unit. I have attached a picture of what it looks like. Unfortunately the wear and cannot be greased, just replaced. Hope this helps and feel free to ask any other questions if needed. Thanks for using 2CarPros.

Thanks for the response Danny,

Could it be the gears humming in the differential and it just appears to be a rear wheel issue? I guess first thing would be to check the oil/grease. Would I do it the same way we used to on the old cars. Pull the bolt and stick finger in or has technology changed?
Any thing else you can think of?
Thanks in advance.

Hello again.

I would still be thinking more along the lines of the bearing being more the culprit than the differential. Yes, it would not hurt to check the differential oil level. Not really due for change until 100.000 miles so just check and top off for now. I have attached a tutorial showing how to check. Hope this helps and feel free to ask any other questions if needed. Thanks again for using 2CarPros.
