Starter problem

I have a 1985 Pontiac 600 STE. A V6 motor, front wheel drive with about 95, 000 miles. My car has a problem starting. I believe it is my starter or the celonoid (Spelling). Have located the starter but need to know where the celonoid is located. Is it on the starter or is it located by itself? The starter does not make a clicking noise, but the car just has a problem kicking in to start like normal.
Thanks,
Maddog

The solenoid is on top of the starter, has a small wire from the engine harness that usually bolts to it. The large wire is positive from the battery.
You may have a bad solenoid or loose connection. Clean all connections (disconnect negative battery cable first!) To solenoid and main cable. If you still have trouble take the starter off and have it tested.
There is usually a factory shim between the starter and the block, so don't lose it.
