Transmission stuck in drive

I have a 75 Pontiac Grand Prix SJ w/400 engine and 400 trans. It has been parked in the garage for about 15 years. I took it out about 5 years ago and started having trouble w/the transmission. I was told to take out the 3000 stall conv. And put in a stock one. I did this and it seemed fine. I parked the car and just recently took it out again and it is now stuck in drive. Even when it is in park, it is still in drive. If you give it gas it feels like doing a brake tork. Even when shifted in reverse or nuetral the transmission remains in drive. The linkage appears to be attached and it does go into park but remains in drive also. Should I just rebuild it or is it something simple. THanks.

Just because the linkage looks like it is moving, doesn't mean it's working anything. I have a '69 Ventura and the tranny linkage was loose in the input shaft. I tightened it up and it has been fine since! Good luck!
