Hey there. The other day I went to take my car for a drive and it started fine and when I started going down the road my engine lost power the temp light came on and it bawged way down. I had to limp back to my house. Waited a day went out and started it and the temp light is off but it still barely stays running almost stalls and what not. So i'v read that it could be the catalytic converter. And the service engine soon light is on it has been on for about 2 years whenever I get it check they say it is the gas cap not seating correctly.

Gas cap will set an EVAP code, which could or could not be a cap.

I find it hard to believe that the only code you are getting is the EVAP code. I would try another mechanic or store for future code reading.

While convertor could be the problem, have a convertor backpressure test performed to be sure.
Convertors are not cheap.
