Engine Cooling problem
2002 Pontiac Grand Prix 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic

have a 2002 grand prix while driving the temp needle shoots straight to the top then goes back down then back to the top again and stays there and temp light comes on but under the hood its not smoking or anything, theres coolant and water in it, after being parked its leaking something.

Most likely the temp gauge sender is bad, or the connection is bad.
Replace it. Make sure and get the right one, there is a temp gauge sender and a coolant temp sender. You want the temp gauge sender.
