My car starts up okay, but after about 3 seconds it shuts itself off and the 'security' light blinks on the dashboard. I read from my manual that my key has a transmitter, so I tried all of the keys I have to see if maybe it was just that key, but it still turned off. I read that disconnecting the battery will allow you to drive the car but the light still blinks. I have not tried anything else beyond checking the key. Any help you can provide is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Have it scanned for any security codes and post back with the code and I will advise from there.

I had a mechanic hook up computer to car. I did not get code, but he said that the car's security system is shutting car off, and that the security system itself would have to be 'reset' and that it could only be done at a gm dealership. I did try disconnecting the battery for an hour but issue continued after I reconnected. Any ideas? If the code itself is still necessary, I will see what I can do about getting specifics. Thanks.

If the security light is flashing there is a code. Most shops dont have the equipment to retrieve these codes, only the dealer can. There is a problem in the passlock system. Disconnecting the battery on new or newer cars does nothing. Without a code it would just be a guess. Post back with any other questions.

Okay well thanks for your advice. I will try to get the code info and post it, but may take a few days. Thanks again.
