Electrical problem
2001 Pontiac Grand Am

Took my car to a shop, to have my manifold gasket fixed. Was leaking coolent and over heating. Now they said I need a new computer, and that the computer is showing it's over heating. Took it to another shop, and they said the higher fan was not able to go on, and that it could be electrical. First shop quoted me for $650.00 to replace computer, and $150.00 to install. Does not sound right!
Could it be a sensor?

It's not showing it's over heating. He said the computer was showing it was. I've only drove it to auto shops and back, which were a good 25 min. Drive. Freeway and streets.

If its not actually overheating don't worry about it and walk away from that shop. The computer might be getting a wrong info from the coolant temperatue sensor-get that checked out-

Thank you! I'm taking it tomorrow to have it diagnosed at a pontiac service center. I will mention the sensor too! And I'm not going back to that shop. I'll let you know what they said.

Much Thanks!
Michelle

It is the computer temp. Switch. They said they can try and bypass the ECM switch, but letting it sit and run over time it will bubble and over heat, even if it's not showing it's over heating. The fans won't turn on either. He turned on my air conditioner, and they still won't go on. I'm looking at $800.00 to fix. =-(
