I have a 97 Grand Am that started surging and died 40 miles into road trip. On the way home I stopped to have the codes read and the reader did not get power from the car when plugged in. Check engine light comes on and flashes multiple codes, gas mileage tanked on the drive home. Any ideas?

The only thing you can do is check the fuses for PCM, in the power distribution center under the hood, Follow your positive battery cable to it.

Also apparently GM has had trouble with connectors not being put together too well, check connectors, especially the one with the metal clip.
