1996 Pontiac Grand Am key ignition switch

My car was broken into and know when I start the car it starts for a second an then dies what could be the problem they jammed something in the ignition switch

Hello,

The igntion cylinder will most likely need to be replaced from whatever they jammed in there causing the "Hall effect sensor" on the inside of the ignition cylinder to trigger the anti-theft (passlock) system and disabling the car from running. Hope this helps.
