Engine Mechanical problem
1998 Pontiac Firebird 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic unknow miles

My son thought he had run out of gas but that was not the problem. He replaced the fuel pump & the fuel filter on his car and it will turn over but still will not start. Any ideas on things to check will be appreciated.

Thanks.

Buy a spark tester and check for spark on all of the cylinders, spark should be bright blue and well defined not eratic.

The firing of the plugs should be rhythmic also not like a machine gun going off.

If thats all good try dumping gas down the throttel body and trying to crank it, does that fire it up?

Reply to me so we can figure it out.

Perform a running fuel pressure test, see if the pressure drops when the vehicle dies.
