My Firebird is ideling really rough on occasions and sometimes its so bad the car shuts off. I got a light saying there is somehing wrong with the EGR valve and I replaced all the coil packs, wires and plugs and my engin keeps miss fireing. I took my car to a mechanic today. He checked the EGR valve and he said it was fine. And that car was ideling bad again and not missing really bad and he hit the Mass Air Flow sensor a few times And the car ran really good and normal. But then I got it home and it started running bad again. I did the same thing he did to the mass air flow censor and it didnt make a diffrence. Think it could still be the mass air flow sensor?

Engine running rough or misfiring can be cause by the following-inspect and test all the following below:
1. Defective spark plug.
2. Inadequate spark/coil, defective spark plug wire.
3. Lack of compression
4. False air leakage.
5. Faulty fuel injectors.
6. Insufficient fuel pressure.
7. Contaminated fuel.
8. EGR valve that is leaking.
9. Oxygen sensors.
10. Idle air control valve.
11. Throttle position sensor.
