Engine Mechanical problem
1988 Pontiac Fiero 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive

Hi,
What is the current correct procedure for setting valve lash on a GM 2.8L / 3.1L V6?
I understand the procedure in the service manual and the Haynes manual has been updated to a new procedure. An engine is being built (all new), and the valve lash will be set (static set) with or without oil in the lifters, depending upon the "correct procedure.
Thank you

They changed procedure right around there sometime, hard to remember lol. Some of them were just set at 20' pounds torque and others had to be manually adjusted. If you bring it up to number 1 adjust those two to 3/4 turn after zero. You can do each cylinder like that and it would be correct. Or you can figure out which valve is at bottom and adjust those as well.
