Electrical problem
1996 Pontiac Bonneville 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 120K miles

My Engine cut out while driving I was rolling up the power windows when this happened. Now my power windows, locks, and fuel pump won't work. Also, the key in ignition and door open chime doesn't work either. The fuel pump usually can be heard turning on when the ignition is in the run position. The security light doesn't flash anymore either (has anti-theft deterant system) which shuts off the starter and fuel pump if someone tries to steal it. The alarm doesn't affect the windows and locks tho.
I have checked all the fuses every single one there all good. I have disconnected the battery twice to reset it didn't work. The keyless remote does lock and unlock the car, and the alarm will go off if triggered. I did put a new fuse in the power locks slot and for a split second the locks worked then stopped but fuse is not blown. I tried this once more and it didn't work again. It took me 4 yrs to save up the $1800 it cost me when I bought it in Feb. 2010. I'm a widowed mom of 3 kids 2 disabailed I can not go to a mechanic I make $75 a week. I got this car so I can get more work please help!

Sounds like your alternator might have gone bad the first thing I would do is make sure your battery cable's are clean and tight. If that's good then take your battery to have it charged and tested at the auto parts store. If the battery is good you can put it back in the car if not then you will have to get another battery and put the new one in. Then you can get the car started after that hopefully so you can test the alternator. Let me know what you find.

I have checked the battery and it was put in in Dec. 09 the voltage meter in the car says the battery is fully charged. While I was checking the fuses again the door locks worked again for a split second, but the fuel pump still didn't come on the power windows still won't roll up. The security light still doesn't flash the key in the ignition chime still doesn't work, everything else works. I don't know what could cause all those independant circuits to go at the same time. None of them are on the same relay. I'm very greatful that it didn't cut off while I was doing 60MPH with my kids in the car, I was just pulling in the driveway. Is there anything else I could try? Oh I almost forgot the check engine light had been going on and off since I bought the car. I read the manual and it said it could be the gas cap after using new fuel, so I would undo and retighten the gas cap and the light would go out for a little while could that have something to do with it? Thank You for your response, and I'm sorry it took so long to reply my internet got turned off for lack of payment.

Yes the starter does turn over but the car does start it sounds like it wants to start it just doesn't kick on. I do not have a multimeter, how much would one aprox. Cost? Before this happened you could hear the fuel pump go on when the key was in the run position it would make a "enup" sound then I would start it but that sound doesn't happen anymore. I really need my car, I just found out I have Cervical Cancer and need transportation to get back and forth to doctors. My kids already lost thier father I don't want them to lose me too.

For a a cheap one there 20 and under. Does all your dash light's come on when your turn the key on. Let's do this go to auto zone and rent there fuel pressure test kit it come's with a fuel pressure gauge and a multimeter that way we can test your fuel pressure and other thing's. Also rent a scan tool so we can see what code's you have.

The weirdest thing last week I needed to push the car further up my driveway and I went out and put the key in the ingition and the fuel pump turned on I started the car and the windows and locks worked I rolled up the window yeah. Anyway how the heck did this happen why didn't it work for a whole month and now with no repair just taking out and replacing the fuses with the same ones that were in there to begin with didn't change them like 20 times. Now i'm afraid to drive it because it could happen again while I have my kids in the car and driving fast (35mph) it will cut out again. What do you think was or is wrong now that you have this info. I have gone out everyday and started it it starts right up with no problem I even drove it around the block for a half hour(sugested by friend) and then after let it run idle in the driveway for 1 hour and it didn't cut off. Please let me know what your thoughts are. Thank you and God bless

Sound's like you have a loose wire some where or a bad fuse box. You could try this since when it happens you loose power to the fuel pump. Start the car up let it idle and start wiggling all the wire's moving around the fuse box's and see if you can get it to die or even stumble if it does then your close to the problem.
