I need to find out how to read codes on an 84 Pontiac Bonneville, V6 with a 3.6L engine (according to the sticker on the car itself). It seems that most places don't read them on a car that old, but I know it is possible. Also, I have a constant oil light on and since I just bought it I wanted to reset the codes to see if the problem had been fixed or if it's a real problem or just a faulty light issue.

Thank you,
Marion

About the oil light,do you hear any type of engine knocking noises? if not -Check the oil pressure with a mechanical gauge,if normal replace the oil pressure switch could also be the gauge/wiring problem. If abnormal could mean oil pump and engine bearing.
