Overheating

I have changed the water pump and the thermostat and it still overheats. It pushes water into the reservoir but does no take it back until you take the cap off. It overheats almost immediately.

When you filled the cooling system up did you open the bleeder screw on thermostat housing and when you got a steady stream out of the bleeder screw while filling it closed the bleeder? Then continued to finish filling the cooling system?
