So, I put a new alternator and serpentine belt on and a new thermostat as well. I made sure my radiator wasn't clogged and for some reason the water isn't circulating. My top radiator hose gets hot but the bottom one stays cold.

Hi,

The upper hose carries hot coolant from the engine to the radiator to be cooled and then returns via the lower hose. So, the upper should be hot and the bottom should be a bit cooler. Does the lower hose get warm or is there no change?

Also, and don't laugh, does the heater work? If it does, that tells me the water pump is circulating coolant. Have you checked the radiator cap? That can cause issues as well.

I attached the steps for bleeding air out of the system when refilling the cooling system. Additionally, the steps are included for checking the radiator cap and for leaks.

Take a look through the directions and let me know if that is what was done. You could simply have an air blockage preventing the pump from moving coolant.

Also, let me know how quickly it overheats, if it happens at highway speeds or is it only in stop and go traffic, and if the cooling fans are operating when it gets hot.

Let me know.

Joe

And my cooling fan I have not heard it kick on even when I sat there with it idling to get the air bubbles out.

And my temperature gauge was saying that it was definitely hot and I didn't hear any fan kick on.

Hi,

Does the heater work? Also, are you comfortable performing the diagnostics above? Does the engine overheat if you are driving at highway speeds?

Let me know.

Joe
