Took our 2002 Intrigue (98,000 miles) in for a "tune-up" to local dealer and they found that we have a bad head gasket (no water in oil. Yet) and said it would be $2,500-3,000 to fix. Is this a fair price to repair the gasket? This has been a great car up until now.

Get a 2nd quote from an independent shop-that is just too high. What tests did they performed to come about with the headgasket- Were you overheating prior to bringing it in for a tune-up and also white smoke coming out of the tail pipe?

Haven't noticed any overheating and very little smoke coming from tail pipe. The dearlership performed a pressure test to find this. On occasion we've noticed small amounts of what looks like antifreeze on the garage floor but were not able to determine where it was coming from. It will run a little rough at times and act like it back-fires.
