THIS IS A 88 OLDS DELTA 88 V6 3800 AUTO 4SP WITH 52,000 MILES. IT'S A ONE OWNER & ALWAYS MAINTAIN WELL. THE CALL HAD A FULL TUNEUP AROUND 45,000 WITH PLUGS. WIRES, AIR & FUEL FILTERS & PVC. ALSO THE TIMING WAS CHECKED & SET. I HAVE BEEN HAVING A PROBLEM WITH THE TRANS SHIFTING FUNNY & EXCESSIVED CRANKING TO START THE CAR. IT FELT LIKE IT WAS HESITATING SHIFTING & DOWN SHIFTED HARD. I CHANGED THE FLUID & FLITER & NOW IT SHIFTS GOOD, BUT WILL STILL SHIFT HARD IN DOWNSHIFT OUT OF OVERDRIVE OR HITTING THE PASSING GEAR AROUND 25-35MPH. ALSO HESITATES IN GEAR AROUND 40-60MPH WHEN ACCELRATING. PLUS I DO NOTICE SOME NOISE FROM THE FUEL PUMP IN THE TANK. I ALSO CHANGED THE FUEL FILTER AGAIN AROUND 51,000 PLEASE HELP!
THANK YOU
JEFF

You are hearing the transfer of hot fluid in to the overflow tank located at the side of the battery. Now that is what it is supposed to do if it gets hot. The question is might there be something else wrong to cause the engine to get that hot and might this get worse in the future. Yes. Take it as a sign to look at other things. Pull the code from the computer. Look for air in the cooling system and purge it. Look for leaks to the system. It may not be coolant escaping but letting air in to the closed system.
