Hey Guys:

I have Rochester 2bbl on my 69 Cutlass, 350 cu. I put it on as a professionally rebuilt unit 6 months ago. Car has not been driven much as I am chasing down the bugs from it having sat for 10 years. The engine runs fine but when shut down ithe carb floods from throttle linkage and around the carb to manifold gasket on both sides of carb. I recently put an inline gas filter and eliminated the stone filter (due to a stripped fuel inlet nut-long story). I believe there is excessive fuel pressure which is flooding the carb out. I have also recently replaced the fuel sending unit in the gas tank. The gas tank/fuel delivery system is a 1 line set up with no return to the tank. There is also no vent valve which runs to a charcoal cannister from the carb. I removed the gas cap and the problem persists (don't think a vapor lock problem).

I am thinking the following:

- Replace carb to intake manifold gasket
- Open carb and try to free up vent valve, check floats and needle valve (if needed).
- Check pressure from original fuel pump (mechanical) and replace if required.

Any other ideas? The engine runs fine and does not flood when running. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Dennis

Hi there,

I would start with hooking up a pressure gauge and checking residual line pressure and also checking float height and the needle & seat, start here.
