My olds bravada seems like it is in AWD especially when I turn sharply...both forward and reverse.

No. I believe the "Smart Trak" looks at a speed differential between the front and rear wheels and ethier energizes or de-energizes the encoder motor in which engages the transfer case that powers the front wheels.

Have the front speed sensor checked on the transfer case.
