Ive looked into how to change the belt but every way ive seen so far theres and way to get a hold on the belt tensioner where on my car there is not anything to to pry it up

Look at the image. You need a 3/8 rachet end to go into the tensioner and move it up and out of the way.

I've been trying to change the serpentine belt on a 2001 oldsmobile alero. All the pulleys are ligned up just like the diagram shows, new belt, the tension arm needed to be and was replaced, but it still keeps popping off when I start the car.

Why would this be? One of the bottom pulleys seems to stick out more than the others which causes the next pulley in line to have the belt be hanging off a bit, could this be the problem? Could it be misaligned or something?

Yes that pulley sticking out further causing the to hang off a bit could cause the belt to be thrown off. Which pulley is sticking out further then the other one's?

Thank you for the answer! It's the crankshaft I believe. I'm not really car savy but from what the diagram I have says it should be the crankshaft. Out of the two on the bottom it's located under the belt tensioner arm.

It look's like the crank shaft pulley so why did you replace the belt tensioner?Was the belt popping off before you changed the belt tensioner when starting?

I was replacing a serpentine belt on my vehicle since it snapped while I was parked and the car was running. I got the engine mount off and placed the new belt on as well as replaced a leaking water pump. But now one of the pulleys has frozen up and I am not sure what the pulley is exactly to. I figured out the alternator, water pump, ac, and crankshaft puellys but not sure which one this is, it is a smaller pulley that is lined by the outer edge of the belt so no grooves on the belt touch it. Is there anyway to get a diagram showing what pulley this is exactly or is it just an idler pulley?

It sounds like an idler pulley. To make sure, go to the "Drive Belt Routing Diagrams" section on this page. Put your car info in and it will provide you with a diagram to help identify the part.

Replaced 2003 serpentine belt and it appears to align with everything except the crankshaft pulley. (Rides too close to the engine and will shred at least two grooves off of the belt). The AC compressor is the pulley just prior to the crankshaft pulley and it determines the belt position on the crankshaft pulley. Any idea what I can do to correct this?

Check the crank pulley to make sure it is in good condition. Many of these have a rubber mount in them to eliminate vibration. They can go bad and allow the pulley to change positions.

I have 1 question my belt just broke i've looked at the diagram and tried to install the belt but it looks to me that I have to remove the motor mount and left the engine about 1 inch to slide belt under it to get it on right now. It has power steering a/c and alternator is in the back on the top and tension pulley is under it. Motor mount is smack in the middle of the motor between all the pulleys and the diagram looks to me that belt makes a full circle around motor not a crest moon shape to bi pass the mount need some help plz before I over work the problem. Ty

If you have the 3.4L engine then yes you do have to remove the motor mount then use a 3/8 " breaker bar to rotate belt tensioner in counterclockwise motion to loosen belt.. for safety disconnect battery, then remove fuel injector sight shield. remove the hood so you can then remove the cross brace. you should be able to remove motor mount struts and get to belt ..goodluck
