I have a 2000 alero and all of a sudden one day the car would crank but not start, I noticed the security light would stay on for a very long time before it went out, not flashing, so I decided to try the spare keys, I got to the 3rd key and it did not work and then I turned it upside down and the car started, so I am thinking the tumbler and ignition switch. The car was fine for a couple of weeks, but I thought I should change them before it does it again, so I started with the switch, I Changed the switch, tried starting, and the car was starting fine put it back together came out in the morning and when I open the door it was beeping like the key was in the ignition and again no start, so I go to advanced get a new tumbler with key did the relearning process after 10 minutes the security light goes out turn the key off, and still no start. I checked all the fuses removed the battery cable to reset the computer I can hear the fuel pump running, tried some ether and the car starts on ether and shuts off so it is not getting gas, I just need some ideas on where to go next, no trouble codes no security light and no start

Did you just scan it with a diyer scan tool? They won't read the body control module codes which is what controls the security pass lock functions.

It doesn't I checked after your original post, but you would think I would have some crazy stuff going on if the BCM was bad, the only thing I noticed when trying to start the car and I let go of the key all the dash lights come on then go out never recognized if it did that before. After searching I found aleros start to leak and water gets to the bcm and the fuse box I might look at that next

If a bcm goes bad it never tells on itself with codes you just see strange things happen no starts no communication with bcm at times etc. What I was looking for were codes in the bcm that might lead us to the security light being on.

Well the only way to find out is take it to a garage that can run the scan. As of now changing the tumbler fixed the security light, turn the key on it stays on for a few seconds and goes out like it should I will have to find someone that can do the test

The car cranks, sprayed some ether in and the car started and shut off so there is spark, the fuel pump runs, doesn't mean I have pressure which is a test I have to do. But why I did not think it was pressure, when ever the car would not start I would just turn the key around and it would start. So I have been focusing on the switch and tumbler. After trying to start for awhile I can smell gas

I would check what the actual fuel pressure is and check for injector pulse.

Yea thats what I was thinking I know alot of people had this same issue with these cars I cant get a node light on the plugs without taking the whole air plenum off and I am looking to see if there is a fitting to get the pressure gauge on the fuel rail, it just has me confused because it started as a security issue unless the car had another problem and was a coincidence to be at the same time

Anything is possible you can't unplug any of the injector connectors without pulling the intake? Also all the GM cars I have seen have a threaded nipple to test what the full pressure is.
