I went to Valvoline in April for oil change my engine light came on a week ago. Never thought to check oil level since I regularly get oil changes and this is the first time I've had to add additional oil. My dipstick was bone dry. I have no oil leaks. Is it possible they forgot to add ample amount of oil? I don't know how long my car has been without oil and now my engine light is on and won't go off. Please help

Hi,

Since you had someone provide a service for you, I would return there as soon as possible. Tell them what you found and now the check engine light is on. They should diagnose it for you to find out what happened. Depending on what the check engine light is on for, it could be related.

We need the codes and we can go from there. However, if they tell you it was not their fault and you want to run what they found by me, please let me know.

Clearly it is hard to say if they caused the issue with just this information, but if it were my car, this is where I would start.
